Ask the Money Doctor: John Lowe on family finance

Should I invest in state savings or my pension fund?

22nd June, 2014

**Question:** I have €5,000 to invest over a longer term. I have read your recent advice regarding the benefits of investing in NTMA state savings over a ten-year period, yielding a total return after tax of 30 per cent. I am employed, aged 42 and have an additional voluntary contribution fund. My question is – should I invest in state savings or make a contribution to my AVC fund?
