Talk to many radio station bosses, and they'll tell you about the near impossibility of finding bright broadcasting talent.

A few months ago, I had a conversation with a well-known Irish agent about the broadcasting talent in Ireland. At the start, Noel Kelly spoke in clichés, enthusing about the "fantastic" talent available. But within minutes, he changed his tune, saying he didn't actually feel Ireland had that much in the way of talent.

"Talent needs an outlet to grow," he said, "so if the outlets aren't there, it's more difficult."
