A Co Armagh man has been given a five-month suspended prison sentence and fined stg£45,000 (€66,185) for operating an illegal dump a mile from the border with Co Monaghan.

A Co Armagh man has been given a five-month suspended prison sentence and fined stg£45,000 (€66,185) for operating an illegal dump a mile from the border with Co Monaghan.

Stephen Leyburn, of Derrynoose, Keady, pleaded guilty at Armagh Magistrates’ Court.

A spokesman for the North’s Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) said it had inspected the site five times and found an estimated 6,540 cubic metres of waste, which would have cost stg£330,270 (€485,572)...
