Gay Mitchell has become a late convert to austerity. Gay was seen by AOB spies perusing the aisles of the Great Deals store on Camden Street in Dublin last Monday afternoon.

After inspecting the many truly remarkable bargains on offer (where air freshener is 80 cent, and 20 bin liners cost €1) he settled on a Time Out bar (50 cent) and a writing pad (98 cent).

Proffering a €50 note to the assistant, he patiently waited for his change to be counted (mostly €5 notes), before heading off in the direction of Camden Street's many charity shops.
