Antiques out on their own

An indication of the buoyancy of the Irish fine art and antiques market is the number of independent auctioneers who have thrown their hats in the ring in recent years.

The latest to join the fray is Sandymount-based Sara Kenny, who spent 20 years with HOK Fine Art before setting up on her own. Her debut sale, the contents of Montpelier in Dalkey was in November of last year and her first sale of the 2006 autumn season is a house contents sale at Lios-an-Uisce, a charming 18th century house in Blackrock, on October 17.
