The biggest retailer in the world is embroiled in controversy. American giant Wal-Mart has been unsettled by the resignation of a top board member, Tom Coughlin, and by revelations that have followed his departure.

Coughlin, a frequent visitor to Ireland ,was once the number two executive in the company. He resigned late last month amid allegations that he had pocketed between $100,000 and $500,000 through the filing of fraudulent claims for expenses.
