Despite the tentative green shoots of recovery, art collectors are still playing it safe. The losers are our contemporary artists. Of the eight Irish works in Bonham's forthcoming sale of British and Irish Art, not one is by a living artist. Thinking long term, as one must in the art world, the winners will be those with the inclination - and courage - to invest in contemporary art.
