A unique piece among the 867 lots is an early 19th century trompe l’oeil scagliola table by Pietro Della Valle. A gift to Maria Edgeworth, it shows scattered engravings, sheet music, an envelope addressed to Miss Edgeworth from William McBean, and an extract from Sir Walter Scott’s preface to the Waverley novels in which he commends...
