Every summer, patients visit me in the surgery after suffering an insect bite or sting. As a GP, I'm less worried about a person who has encountered an insect in Ireland compared to more exotic places. Tropical medicine is a subject for another day and, while it's rare to become unwell from an insect bite or sting while holidaying in Ireland, it can be very unpleasant nonetheless.
