Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has proposed Labour TD Alex White for the role of Minister of State at the Department of Health with responsibility for primary care, replacing Róisín Shortall who resigned last night.

It’s expected that White's formal appointment will be made at the next Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
