Back in 1999, Stephin Merritt's Magnetic Fields released a very long album entitled 69 Love Songs. This one is a lot more pared-down, to put it mildly: no track lasts longer than two and a half minutes. The palette is split evenly between ornate chamber-pop and spindly electro, and the schizophrenic feel of it is augmented by Claudia Gonson, who sounds like a deeply nerdy male, and Merritt, a Yank-accented Morrissey, taking turns on vocal...
