Removing the bass from a song tends not to do very much for it - the rare exceptions being Prince's When Doves Cry, the Explosions In The Sky album and the odd tune by the White Stripes. Ohio duo The Black Keys manage to get round this problem by feeding so much crunch and power into their rhythm guitar track that you essentially don't notice the absence of the other element.
