Irish airports and ports have been moved onto high alert following the confirmation of an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease on a farm in England.

The Department of Agriculture has ordered high-level precautions to be put in place to ensure that any exposed animals do not enter the country.

Ports and airports have been ordered to implement the necessary measures, while the department has banned the importation of all live animals, fresh meat and non-pasteurised milk...
