The government is to consider merging the four existing affordable housing schemes, and allowing applicants to buy homes directly from developers.

Noel Ahern, the Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal, said that his office planned to regularise the way affordable housing was allocated throughout Ireland.
‘‘The beauty of four schemes is that you’re able to tailor them to different income brackets,” he said.
