Ahern promises budget boost for pensioners

Buoyed by recent opinion polls and believing that a third term in government beckons, Fianna Fail delegates gave Taoiseach Bertie Ahern a rapturous reception at the 70th Fianna Fail ard fheis in Citywest, Dublin, yesterday.

Buoyed by recent opinion polls and believing that a third term in government beckons, Fianna Fail delegates gave Taoiseach Bertie Ahern a rapturous reception at the 70th Fianna Fail ard fheis in Citywest, Dublin, yesterday. In his keynote televised address, Ahern pledged to raise the old age pension to €200 a week in the forthcoming budget, but otherwise kept to mostly generalised pledges of low taxes and pro-growth policies.
