Airline Aer Lingus has issued a response to an open letter from rival and shareholder Ryanair.

The company challenged Ryanair's assertion that it had been "totally ignored".

It said it had made it clear to Ryanair that the company had no right to force it to accede to demands regarding the payment of a dividend.
