Moving to Britain to avail of a shorter discharge from bankruptcy represents major upheaval for those in financial difficulty in return for an "extremely marginal" gain, according to the head of the Insolvency Service of Ireland (ISI).

Lorcan O'Connor, director of the ISI, said that there had been "high-profile cases where people have gone to Britain, but in actual fact, the number of Irish people declaring themselves bankrupt in Britain is relatively small".
