It started out as Adidas versus Nike, but it’s Adidas versus Puma in tonight’s World Cup final after Nike’s last remaining team, Portugal, was eliminated in the semi-finals.

It started out as Adidas versus Nike, but it’s Adidas versus Puma in tonight’s World Cup final after Nike’s last remaining team, Portugal, was eliminated in the semi-finals.

Both firms owe their roots to the German town of Herzogenaurach, where two brothers called Dassler made athletic shoes.

The brothers split, with one founding Puma in 1948 and the other founding Adidas soon after.
