An extraordinary sight greeted people entering the Redemptorist order’s huge church at Clonard in west Belfast last Wednesday evening.

There, behind a table alongside the high altar, sat senior Sinn Fein members Gerry Kelly, Bairbre de Brun and Alex Maskey, while at the lectern in front of the altar stood party leader Gerry Adams.
