A sailor who really knows the ropes

Budding sailors looking for practical advice at this week’s Allianz Dublin Boat Show could do worse than talk to Pat Murphy, the founder of Dinghy Supplies.

A keen sailor, Murphy set up his business 35 years ago, after becoming frustrated with the lack of supplies available for sailing enthusiasts. In 1999, he handed over the day-to-day running of the shop to his son, Shane, and planned a round the world adventure with his wife, Olivia.

Initially the couple planned a four-year voyage, but the journey ended up lasting for nine years, interspersed with the occasional trip home for Christmas and other special events....
