A royal affair in Durrow
A wealth of regal lots from around the world will be auctioned at Sheppard's, writes Ros Drinkwater.
An item with royal provenance that sits in the palm of a man's hand is one of the highlights at Sheppard's forthcoming sale. It's a gold snuff box by Rundell, Bridge & Rundell circa 1820, probably made by Alexander James Strachan (1799-1850).
It was commissioned by George IV and presented to Viscount Powerscourt on board the Royal George at Kingstown (now Dun Laoghaire) in 1821.
