Former taoiseach Bertie Ahern hopes that the battles he lost last week may ultimately help him win the long war he is fighting at the Mahon planning tribunal.
Once known as the Teflon Taoiseach, Ahern, who has been under growing pressure to explain the source of thousands of pounds lodged to his Irish Permanent account in 1994, last week dramatically accepted the tribunal’s view that some of the lodgments were in sterling.
