Given the week that's in it, as families scramble to pick up last-minute Christmas presents, it's worth noting the latest crime figures released by the Central Statistics Office pertaining to burglary.

The good news is that burglary and related offences fell by almost 9 per cent in the 12 months to June compared to 2012. The previous year, burglaries increased by 10 per cent when almost all other types of crime had declined.
