We often think of travel as a modern phenomenon. Everywhere you go in Europe, you see tourists from every corner of the world mixing and converging like it’s the most natural thing in the world. But what we don’t often realise is that way back in the mists of time, people travelled too. They were in the minority – of that there’s no doubt – but travel they did. They learned and drew up maps and were aware of the other countries and places that make up the continent of Europe.
