Aspen, Colorado is a wintry playground for the rich and famous - and some skiing tuition courses there can even change your outlook on life for good, writes Margaret Higgins.

Behind the expensive boutiques and après-ski, Aspen has a thriving historical and cultural scene, with dozens of art galleries, museums and a 19th century silver mining background.

Aspen, Colorado has always conjured up images of a posh ski resort; a party town frequented by stars such as Jack Nicholson, Johnny Depp and the late Hunter S Thompson.

Indeed, it boasts all the necessary credentials: 16 five-star hotels, the world's highest pop-up champagne bar, $15,000 dollar-a-night luxury condos and a 'hot tub scene'. Wealthy visitors have been known to fly their pets into Aspen Pitkin airport on private flights. But there are more...
