In the late 18th century, rebuilding works on the castle almost bankrupted the family, and in 1803 the 23rd Knight of Glin was forced to auction his furniture outside on the lawn. In the 20th century the 29th Knight of Glin, Desmond FitzGerald, spent his life buying the pieces back before, sadly, having to send them under the hammer...
