The phrase that came to mind was ‘the odd couple’ – the Archbishop of Dublin and artist John Kingerlee, deep in conversation, oblivious of the crowd milling around in the packed Luan Gallery. The occasion was the opening of the Kingerlee Retrospective, an exhibition of 65 paintings dating from 1962 to the present day and including examples of Kingerlee’s key subject series, Grids, Heads, Landscapes and Collages.
