There was much to celebrate last Wednesday.

The spectacle of a decimated (not quite!) Fianna Fáil sitting opposite the serried ranks of Fine Gael and Labour was testimony of sorts to the health of our representative democracy.

The joy over the success of a decent, likeable man, Enda Kenny, was palpable, even on the part of those of us who do not share his politics.
