A dictator or just a crusader?

The rhetoric of Roman poet Decimus Magnus Ausonius often revolved around wine, virtue and taste. He tutored Flavius Gratianus Augustus as a boy and when the boy grew up to become emperor, Ausonius was appointed consul.

Festooned with honours, he became a key arbiter of taste and power in Rome. Today, one man occupies a similar position of power and influence in the wine world.
