A two-day sale at Bonham's in London showcases the weird and wonderful world of the 19th century, writes Ros Drinkwater.
Unsuccessful bidders for the 1910 replica Ardagh Chalice at Whyte's in Dublin last week may care to note that a second replica will go under the hammer at Bonham's in London this week. Of silver and silver gilt and weighing 94oz, it was made by the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company of London in 1900 and has an estimate of €3,100 to €3,700.
Entitled Gentleman's Library, the two-day sale gives us an idea of what filled the horizons...
