€80,000 lump sums for over 7,000 retiring public servants

More than 7,000 retiring public servants will receive an average lump sum of over €80,000, according to figures obtained from the Department of Public Enterprise.

More than 7,000 public servants retiring at the end of this month will receive an average lump sum of over €80,000, according to figures obtained from the Department of Public Enterprise.

The tax-free payments will cost the exchequer some €600 million this year and are in addition to pensions of half of final salary, in cases where the pensioner has full service.
