70s revival heralds the return of kitsch

Iconic styles from the 1970s are enjoying a revival with bold designs, autumnal colours and retro furniture, writes Julianne Kelly.

Like fashion, interior design from the 1970s is iconic. The space age interiors of the 1960s had given way to the heavier textures of cork tiles, shag pile carpets, wood panelling and hessian cladding.

Orange, cream and brown were the major players in colour; vinyl wallpapers in large overall patterns and inspiration from the 1920s and 1930s were mixed with innovations to create 1970s style. Contrasting colour was a common room scheme of the time....
