50,000 turn out to oppose austerity in central Dublin

Almost 50,000 protesters gathered in Dublin city centre yesterday to voice their anger over the IMF bailout for Ireland, and the four-year austerity plan announced last week.

Almost 50,000 protesters gathered in Dublin city centre yesterday to voice their anger over the IMF bailout for Ireland, and the four-year austerity plan announced last week.

Hundreds of gardai, including marked And unmarked garda vans carrying riot squad members, patrolled areas near the march, which started at Wood Quay and ended at the GPO for a rally.
