3G takes off for Vodafone

Ireland has 250,000 3G customers, according to the chief strategy officer for Vodafone.

Gerry Fahy, strategy director of Vodafone Ireland, told last month’s Telecoms Industry Federation (Tif) ball that the number of people subscribing to the mobile broadband service had reached a quarter of a million.

This represents rapid growth in the sector as in March, Vodafone revealed that it had 170,000 Irish 3G subscribers.

3, the 3G-only operator, is estimated to have less than 30,000 customers, leaving a gain to Vodafone of some 50,000 new subscribers...
