€3.1 billion state repayment likely to be deferred this week

The government expects to announce a deferral of next weekend's €3.1 billion repayment of the Anglo Irish Bank promissory note in the coming days.

The government expects to announce a deferral of next weekend's €3.1 billion repayment of the Anglo Irish Bank promissory note in the coming days.

Though discussions with the European Commission and the ECB are continuing, sources at the highest level of government are optimistic that final agreement on a postponement of the payment will be forthcoming early this week.
