More than 3,000 people were convicted of carrying knives in public over the past four years, according to new figures.

More than 3,000 people were convicted of carrying knives in public over the past four years, according to new figures.

Figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that the number of serious stabbing incidents has almost tripled over the same period, with 146 stabbing incidents recorded last year.

Last year, 18 people were murdered by people with knives, while there were 128 incidents of assaults causing harm.
