The most memorable meal my wife has ever eaten was on a work trip to France with six colleagues in the early 1990s.

Their luggage had been stolen in Grenoble, so they hightailed it to an Alpine retreat where the owner served them raclette, a type of cheese fondue, with potatoes and salad.

This basic and delicious dish really hit the spot on a cold winter’s night.
