2017 is the date for public sector pay rises

The country's 291,000 public servants are set to get average pay rises of almost 4 per cent in three years' time.

The country's 291,000 public servants are set to get average pay rises of almost 4 per cent in three years' time.

The official projections by Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin's department have been welcomed by unions, but greeted with caution by employers.

The department factored in pay increases when it was calculating the final cost of paying pensions for all existing public servants.
