€128m fund to fight unemployment

The main measure announced by the government last Tuesday to tackle ever-lenghtening dole queues, was a €128 million fund for the provision of 23,445 extra employment and training scheme places.

The main measure announced by the government last Tuesday to tackle ever-lenghtening dole queues, was a €128 million fund for the provision of 23,445 extra employment and training scheme places.

The employment schemes include: 400 additional community employment scheme jobs, 12,015 places on a ten-week training initiative and 1,833 places on a 20-week training initiative, 2,000 jobs on a work experience scheme and 277 places on a pilot scheme for short-term workers.

This totals 16,525 jobs or employment scheme placements.
