$104m profit at Western Union

Money transfer firm Western Union made a profit of $104 million last year from an Irish based unit which employs 65 people, writes Gavin Daly.

Western Union International is a major part of Western Union’s operations, with income of $2.7 billion last year, up from$2.2 billion in 2007.At the end of last year, the company had accumulated profits of more than $410 million.

The firm paid a dividend of $277 million to its parent company, MT International (Holdings) in 2007, but no dividend was paid last year. It also repaid an intercompany loan of $375 million in 2007, meaning that...
