10,000 farmers protest at Leinster House

Most dairy co-ops, beef, lamb, pig and poultry processors, grain merchants and livestock marts will close to accepting farm produce today, according to the Irish Farmers Association.

The first vanguard of farmers reach the gates of Leinster House a short time ago.

10,000 farmers have begun a protest in Dublin's Merrion Square to march on Leinster House this lunchtime.

The march, which has led to the closure of streets in central Dublin, is been held to highlight funding concerns in the farming sector. The farmers are expected to march to the Kildare Street entrance of Leinster House where speeches are scheduled to take place at 1.30pm.
