Retailers experienced a dramatic slump in business over Christmas, with new figures showing a 10 per cent drop in sales in the last quarter of 2008, writes Susan Mitchell. Sales of menswear, footwear, jewellery and giftware were all affected, according to new figures from Retail Excellence Ireland - which represents 380 retailers with 1,500 stores - and CBRE.
