Senior Fine Gael members believe Taoiseach should ‘control own destiny’

Fine Gael was on a war footing last night amid a growing expectation that the Taoiseach will call a general election this week.

While the Taoiseach met Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin last week and is due to meet him again this week, senior sources within Fine Gael have been told that the most likely outcome is that the election will be announced in the coming days.
