The times sometimes crisscross with extraordinary moments of irony. As Pat Hickey – following his arrest last Wednesday – was being led under police escort into Rio’s Samaritano Hospital, he probably didn’t know that an associate of his, and the world’s most powerful sports administrator for almost 40 years, had died in the same hospital only hours earlier, aged 100. Indeed, the man’s body may still have been in the morgue as Hickey arrived....
