SBP Editorial: Moderate voices needed in the abortion debate

The Citizens’ Assembly will have its inaugural meeting on October 15 and the first item on its agenda will be Ireland’s abortion laws.

Abortion is illegal in Ireland unless there is a threat to the life, as distinct from the health, of the mother. We have drawn repeated international criticism over our laws on abortion, which are among the strictest in Europe.
