Peter Jackson becomes the sixth chief executive of Paddy Power in its 17 years as a public company when he steps through the doors of Power Tower tomorrow morning. He was, in truth, a surprising appointment to replace Breon Corcoran.

That is a fair turnover of chief executives in less than two decades, and it comes at a time when the highly-rated Corcoran had barely got his feet under the table.
