Industry all at sea over new restrictions

Earlier this year, John FitzGerald, chairperson of the Climate Change Advisory Council, was pressed at an Oireachtas committee on the absence of any measures to curtail Irish oil and gas exploration in the government’s Climate Action Plan.

“A secure supply of gas is important, if you could separate it from oil,” he told the silent committee room in Leinster House, “but pumping oil is not the solution to climate change, it’s the opposite....
