There are certain truths here, and they need to be acknowledged. Ireland gave one of the world’s most profitable companies a sweetheart deal that helped it slash its tax bill by billions of dollars over a 25-year period. More recently, we facilitated a titan of global commerce to avoid tax at a time when the country was bankrupt and ordinary companies and taxpayers endured severe austerity.
