We need to face up to alcohol abuse. Most Irish adults drink too much, and many drink dangerously. This has a massive impact on ill health, obesity, and cancer. It drives up health service costs, causes public order offences, child abuse and sexual assaults. Numerous crimes are alcohol-related so it puts a burden on gardaí and the courts system.
