What has this general election campaign actually been about?

The major issues that have dominated public discourse in recent years have been absent. Ireland has a shameful homelessness crisis, itself wrapped within a broader housing supply malfunction. The mainstream political parties have largely ignored the issue.

The tragic death of Savita Halappanavar in October 2012 triggered a debate about abortion and the eighth amendment. Again, this has not been a campaign issue.
